Forest/Outdoor school : Imagine a school where sunlight replaces fluorescent lights, birdsongs replace school bells, and curiosity leads the way. At School & Nature RVA, children don’t just learn—they explore, create, and discover in the great outdoors. With expert guidance, children develop academic skills, emotional intelligence, and a deep love for nature, preparing them not just for school—but for life.

The Science Behind Outdoor Learning :

Why does outdoor education matter? Studies have shown that children who learn in nature experience:

✔️ Better Focus & Memory – Natural settings reduce stress and improve cognitive function.
✔️ Higher Academic Achievement – Hands-on, real-world learning makes lessons stick.
✔️ Stronger Motor Skills & Physical Health – Climbing, running, and balancing build coordination.
✔️ Enhanced Social Skills – Teamwork and unstructured play foster communication and confidence.
✔️ Greater Emotional Resilience – Nature reduces anxiety and boosts happiness.

The result? Happier, healthier, and more engaged learners!

Our Mission & Philosophy :

At School & Nature RVA, we believe:

🔹 Children thrive in nature. A child’s natural curiosity blossoms when they are free to explore.
🔹 Learning should be hands-on. Books are important, but so is feeling, touching, and experiencing.
🔹 Education is about the whole child. We focus on academics, emotional well-being, and social growth.
🔹 Every child is unique. We embrace child-led learning and nurture independence, creativity, and confidence.

Through a blend of Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, and Charlotte Mason philosophies, we create a balanced learning experience that fosters joy, wonder, and a lifelong love of learning.

At School & Nature RVA, we are more than just a school—we are a community of like-minded parents who share a vision of education that nurtures children in a natural, hands-on environment.

As a parent-led co-op, families actively:

🤝 Choose teachers & shape policies – Parents play a key role in selecting educators who align with our philosophy.
📆 Plan activities & support operations – Volunteer opportunities allow parents to contribute in ways that fit their availability.
🔎 Engage in decision-making – Families help shape the school’s direction, ensuring it reflects their values.

The Teacher-Parent Connection

At School & Nature RVA, our teachers aren’t just instructors—they are partners in your child’s journey. We prioritize open communication between teachers and parents to ensure every child gets the support they need.

✔️ Daily Check-Ins – Teachers listen to parents about each child's needs, moods, and situations to adapt the day accordingly.
✔️ Parental Guidance – Our educators are always available to offer tips and insights, helping parents extend learning and emotional support at home.
Together, we create a supportive, flexible, and enriching environment where children and families can thrive.

Safety & Outdoor Learning

At School & Nature RVA, safety comes first. Each group has two trained teachers, clear safety rules, and required weather-appropriate gear.

Gentle Transitions for a Safe & Confident Journey

At School & Nature RVA, we prioritize each child’s emotional well-being. Whether starting school or moving to the next age group, transitions happen slowly and naturally to ensure children feel safe, secure, and ready.

Parents can stay or drop off based on their child’s comfort, allowing for a stress-free adjustment.

When it's time to move up, children transition gradually, spending more time with the older group until they feel at home—no sudden changes, just a smooth, supportive progression that honors their pace.
